Railwatch - New style elections

Elections for the six principal national officers and 10 other members of the RDS national executive will be held under a new system in 1999. There will be a postal ballot of all members, giving everyone a chance to vote.

There will be no "hands up" vote at the AGM itself.

Nominations in writing must be received by noon on 1 March by the Returning Officer, RDS, 108 Berwick Road, London E16 3DS.

Nominations must be signed by a proposer and seconder and should be accompanied by up to 200 words about the candidate. This will be published on the ballot paper, which will be sent out with the next edition of Railwatch.

It would also be helpful if the candidate's address and phone number were given.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the Returning Officer (at the address above) on or after 1 January.

This notice is given under section 13 (3 - new) of the constitution as approved at the annual general meeting in Shrewsbury on 2 May 1998.

Railfuture is an independent, voluntary group representing rail users in Britain with 20,000 affiliated and individual members. It is not funded by train companies, political parties or trade unions, and all members have an equal say.

Railfuture campaigns for cheap and convenient rail services for everyone; better links for buses, bikes and pedestrians; policies to get more heavy lorries on to rail; new lines, stations and freight terminals. In short, a better rail service and a bigger rail system for both passengers and freight.

Railfuture is pro-rail but not anti-road or anti-air. However, we campaign for a switch from road and air to rail. We do not interfere in the running of the railway - we campaign for the quality and range of services provided, not how they are delivered. We are the only champion of all rail users.
