Lobbying pays off The Franchise Director improved the passenger service requirment for Thames Trains following our representations. Beneficiaries will be rail users between Reading and Gatwick, but Basingstoke and Stratford will get better services too.
East-West Funding has been agreed for the second phase of the East-West Links rail study which will concentrate on where the cash will come from to use existing lines, mothballed routes and new links to provide a rail service from Swindon, through Oxford, Milton Keynes and Bedford to Peterborough and East Anglia.
Well done Railtrack Oxfordshire county council plans to trial guided buses on the Oxford to Bicester line have been rebuffed by Railtrack which quoted the line's possible use for East-West rail links.
Boo! It's Dr Beecham! Dr Beecham is the villain in the musical play Reopen the Line at the Jenny Lee Theatre at Bletchley Leisure Centre on 28 and 29 December.
Who benefits? Funding for a new Kidlington station could be available to Oxfordshire county council in 1997. The 1990 estimated cost of £350,000 has grown to £909,000.
Can Do! Railtrack has agreed that train paths are available for a service from Oxford to Swindon calling at a new station at Grove (Wantage Road). Now we have to interest either Great Western, Thames or South Wales and the West in running the service and find ways of securing the nearly £1 million cost of the project.
Could do! The value of introducing an Oxford-Aylesbury train service is recognised by Aylesbury Vale Council. Quainton Road and Winslow are to be safeguarded for possible reopening. Bryant Homes and Genesis Homes have offered funding to help build an Aylesbury North station and there are also plans for 7,000 new homes at Winslow and 300 at Calvert.

Rail users are encouraged to join Railfuture to help us campaign for a bigger and better railway - membership for individuals is just £20 per year
Railfuture is an independent, voluntary group representing rail users in Britain with 20,000 affiliated and individual members. It is not funded by train companies, political parties or trade unions, and all members have an equal say.
Railfuture campaigns for cheap and convenient rail services for everyone; better links for buses, bikes and pedestrians; policies to get more heavy lorries on to rail; new lines, stations and freight terminals. In short, a better rail service and a bigger rail system for both passengers and freight.
Railfuture is pro-rail but not anti-road or anti-air. However, we campaign for a switch from road and air to rail. We do not interfere in the running of the railway - we campaign for the quality and range of services provided, not how they are delivered. We are the only champion of all rail users.
