Welcome Alix

Alix Stredwick has joined RDS as our new campaigns director and will be responsible for co-ordinating national campaigns. She sees her greatest challenge as increasing our media profile. Within two weeks of her appointment she appeared on a Jonathan Dimbleby BBC1 TV programme about transport.

Alix graduated this year from Southampton University where she gained a 2:1 BSc (Hons) in Geography. But that does not mean she is an expert on every obscure railway location in Britain and as she puts it: "Don't ask me where the capital of Azerbaijan is!" She has already proved her strong interest in transport and how it relates to social and environmental issues

The first problem Alix has had to cope with has been our failure to provide an office. Offers of office space in London fell through because both the Pedestrians Association and the Fawcett Society wanted to expand into the space they originally had earmarked for us. So for the moment Alix is working from home and can be reached by e-mail on AlixStredwick@hotmail.com. We are doing our best to find somewhere suitable as an office. If anyone knows of an office which we could share, please contact Paul Krebs on 0171 727 8872.

Note: contact details (postal and email addresses, along with telephone numbers) in old editions of Railwatch out of date. Click CONTACT US for latest contact details.

Rail users are encouraged to join Railfuture to help us campaign for a bigger and better railway - membership for individuals is just £20 per year

Railfuture is an independent, voluntary group representing rail users in Britain with 20,000 affiliated and individual members. It is not funded by train companies, political parties or trade unions, and all members have an equal say.

Railfuture campaigns for cheap and convenient rail services for everyone; better links for buses, bikes and pedestrians; policies to get more heavy lorries on to rail; new lines, stations and freight terminals. In short, a better rail service and a bigger rail system for both passengers and freight.

Railfuture is pro-rail but not anti-road or anti-air. However, we campaign for a switch from road and air to rail. We do not interfere in the running of the railway - we campaign for the quality and range of services provided, not how they are delivered. We are the only champion of all rail users.
